A growing community on Austin's southern edge
About
Living in Manchaca
Manchaca (locally pronounced "Man-shack") is an unincorporated community on Austin's southern edge along Manchaca Road, straddling the line between urban Austin and the rural Hays County countryside. The area has grown significantly as south Austin's popularity has pushed development southward.
Manchaca offers a mix of older rural properties and newer development, with proximity to both south Austin's eclectic culture and the open spaces of Hays County. The area is served by a mix of Austin ISD, Hays CISD, and private school options, and the dining scene along Manchaca Road has become a destination for south Austin foodies.
Why Manchaca?
- South Austin character and culture
- Mix of rural properties and new development
- Growing dining scene along Manchaca Road
- Gateway between Austin and Hays County

Angie's Guide to Manchaca
Manchaca is south Austin's open secret. It has that funky, independent south Austin energy but with more space and more affordable lots. My clients who love the south Austin vibe but cannot afford 78704 often end up in Manchaca and love it. Just do not pronounce it wrong — it is Man-shack, not Man-cha-ka.
